Preseason started for the Demons Tues 24 Nov and we had 43 players on the track with 6 apologies, the boys were put through an intense running circuit and it was obvious that the majority of players had been busy doing their own training in the off season. Craig Taylor blitzed the course, with Gav Burckett, Chris Lewis, Matty Paul, Rick Keen and Zac Millar all showing very good levels of fitness. On Thursday we had a gym and pool session at the Aquadome with 29 in attendance and 13 apologies. New Reserves coach Craig Wilson's passion and enthusiasm has already started spreading amongst the group and a big year is in store. Its also good that a group of u16/18's have committed to doing a preseason, we expect 4 or 5 of these kids to play senior football at some stage in 2010. The club welcomes Peter Dempsey and Adam Hollamby from Renmark and there are a group of other new players we hope to sign in the near future. The preseason will finish 22 December and we will return after the XMAS break 05 January.

Yours in footy,
 Dusty Millar

Close but not close enough. Our C grade were there but the grand final victory eluded our boys.  After a gut wrenching victory in the preliminary final our boys could not go on with the job going down easily in the end to Flinders Park.  The final score FP 16.04 100 to EP 04.04 28.
Commiserations to our under 13 side who also played off in a grand final against Pooraka at Daly oval, but were unable to take the flag. The lads were in the game till half time but Pooraka were too good and kicked away.  The final score , Pooraka 6.13 49 to Eastern Park 2.2 14.

It's season over for the Demons who this weekend, were knocked out of the race to the div 2 premiership by Payneham NU in the qualifying final. It was a tight affair early with two points separating the sides at quarter time.  Payneham came out firing in the second and blew the Demons away with an eight goal burst while the Dees could only manage two for the quarter. The margin at the main break was a concerning 6 goals.  The third quarter saw the boys fight back with spirit but they were unable to make inroads into the substantial lead.  In the last, the Dees came out full of fight and although they kept the Falcons goalless, they were unable to bridge the gap. The final margin 22 points.
Although it was disappointing to not make the grand final, it must be said that the first year in Div 2 has been a great one for the Eastern Park Football Club.  Congratulations to all players, coach and officials for a great year.
The Demon's fighting spirit came to the fore in the C2 preliminary final with the Lads taking the honours against PHOS Camden at Camden Oval to earn a place in the grand final.  The Demons were down by two straight kicks at the first break but rallied in the second to lead by a couple at the main break.  The Dees piled on six goals in the premiership quarter to setup the victory. The lads finished off in the last with five goals to one last quarter to book their place in the grand final with a fifty point victory.
Commiserations to our under 16s side who went down to Payneham NU in the preliminary final.  The young Dees who were minor premiers went out of the finals in straight sets to end the year on a disappointing note.  Lets hope the boys bounce back next year and take that extra step and bring a premiership home to Dwight Reserve.
Congratulations to our under 13s side who have made the grand final after their great win against Tea Tree Gully.  They will now play Pooraka next week and hopefully be successful.  We wish them all the best and hopefully they will bring home the flag.

It was a first semi final this weekend for the Demons and we were at home hosting the Phantoms.  It was a do or die game with the loser dropping out of the final series.  The conditions were not conducive for great football but with wind and rain but it still turned out to be a great spectacle. It was a tight game but we managed to hold the ascendency at half time by around a two goal margin.  We had the wind in the third but we were unable to capitalise with inaccuracy and missed opportunities costing us dearly.  It the last we lifted our intensity and players all over the ground stood up and gave it their all.  Inspiration goals by Sean and Zac sparked our boys and we came away with a 7 point win.  We meet Payneham next week and the winner goes into the GF. Go Dees!!
What a great win from behind for our C grade who took on Pembroke in the 1st semi final match today at Haslam oval.  The boys were down by two and a half goals at the final break but fought back to take the win by 3 points. Prelim next week lads. Go Dee!!

A great win by our C2 side in front of a huge crowd at Dwight Reserve. It was an elimination final against Payneham NU and it turned out to be a cracker.  The game was close all day with scores level at quarter time. We managed to get our noses in front at the long break but the opposition started to pull away in the third.  Going into the last stanza the Demons had it all to do and with five minutes still to play we were three goals in arrears.  With the crowd behind us and a gutsy effort by our Lads we took them on to come away with an eleven point win.  Fantastic!!
The A grade ventured down to Broadview once more to take on the same side they did the week before and unfortunately for our boys the result was the same.  We were slow out of the blocks and the tigers held a three goal lead at quarter time. We fought back in the second and were nine points down at the long break.  After half time we were simply outclassed and we only managed four goals to Broadview's eleven.  Our finals campaign is not yet over but we will certainly have to improve if we are to be a chance this year.

Football 16-08-09
It was Sponsor's day a the club and a home game for the Demons as they took on Broadview in the last minor round game of the season.  The winner of this encounter would see the victor finish in second spot on the ladder.  The result though was to some degree irrelevant as both will meet again next week in the qualifying final.  Eastern Park were five points behind at quarter time in what was a fairly even contest. Broadview kicked away in the second and lead by around four goals. The Tigers had most of the play in the third but inaccurate kicking kept the Demons in the hunt.  The Dees fought back gallantly in the last and even had a chance in the dying minutes to snare the victory but it wasn't to be with Broadview running out winners by four points.  Both sides will now meet again next week.
The B grade had a good win though running out winners by 34 points.  This ends the season for the Bs who finished seventh on the ladder. The C grade also managed a win with a final margin of nine points.  This sees the Lads in to 4 spot on the ladder and will play an elimination final next week.  Well done to all our Boys in what has been a great year for our club.

An away game this week and we travelled down to Flinders Park.  This was a must win game to help us secure a top 2 spot.  The Demons started the game well kicking the first 3 goals and were up by a couple at quarter time.  The boys went to sleep in the second quarter and could not get the ball past half forward.  We were kept scoreless in the quarter and if it wasn't for some inaccuracy in front of goals, Flinders Park would have been in a commanding position. As it was they were up by 23 points at the main break.
Dusty's Post Match Address

Dusty's postmatch address

We started the "premiership" quarter with a goal early but in what turned out to be a seesawing affair, the margin remained at 18 points at the last break.
The boys responded to Dusty's address at the three quarter time and kicked three answered goals to take the slimmest of leads.  The Reds fought back with another goal but the Dees replied to maintain the lead. It was goal for goal with the lead alternating between both sides. Whoever could kick an unanswered goal would win and our boys who showed great spirit managed just that.  With two minutes to go we had an 8 point lead. A soft free kick gave the opportunity for FP to close the margin but a missed shot ensured the Demons' victory.
Our Bs and Cs were not as lucky with both sides going down.  The Bs are definitely out of the finals race but the Cs are sitting in third spot and will definitely play in the major round. Positions 3 to 5 on the C2 ladder are only separated by percentage, so they will need to win well next week to stay in third spot.

Football  02-08-09
It was the fifth win on the trot for the Demons with the Seaton Ramblers being the latest victims. Although the final margin was only 8 points it was a good away win.  The Demons have only 2 minor round matches to go in season 09 and if they are able to pull off a couple of wins there is a possibility of a top spot or at least second spot on the ladder which will give us the double chance.  But lets not get ahead of ourselves here and to use that well worn cliché, lets just take it one week at a time.
The Bs went down by 11 points but it was great effort with some of the youngsters up from the Under 16s performing well. The future looks bright for our club  when we have these young performing at this level.  A 10 point win for the C grade in their match at Dwight reserve.  The win sees them fourth on the ladder so lets hope for some finals action for the Lads.

A percentage booster for the Demons this weekend against cellar dwellers, Kilburn. The final margin was 122 points against a side which remains winless this year.  The next two games are against teams below us on the ladder namely Seaton and Flinders Park so hopefully two more wins will see us firmly entrenched in the top four.  Only four points separate fist and fourth on the ladder so a win against Broadview in the last minor round of the year will see us in good shape to make a run at the flag. For Dusty's report on the game which will be available Monday night click here.
A good win for the B's also who massacred Kilburn. The Kilburn Bs only troubled the scorers twice for a total of two behinds.  A 32 goal victory was one for the Dees to savour.  The unlucky EPFC C grade were again handed the points through another forfeit which amounts to two in three rounds.

Congratulations also to Michael "Dusty" Millar who has been reappointed for another year as EPFC Senior Football Coach.  Dusty has achieved great things so far this season and will no doubt continue next year.

A home game for Eastern Park this weekend and Athelstone became the latest victims.  It was the third win on the trot and the win sees the Demons move to third spot on the ladder.  It was a good win with the Dees ahead at every change. Mick Aghan bagging 4 and Adrian Wilson kicking 3 for the day. For Dusty's report on the game which will be available Monday night click here.
The Bs had a good win also with Matty Paul coming back from injury and having a run, a couple of goals and some good form may see him back in the A's soon.  The Cs took on Salisbury West and it was an absolute massacre with the opposition only managing a solitary point. A 30 goal winning margin one of the biggest for our Cs in a while.
A great win also for our under 16s against Hope Valley in what was a good weekend for the Dees, which now sees them atop the ladder.  It was a close game with Hope Valley, who had their noses in front at every break except the one that mattered. The young Demons finished off well in the last quarter to come away with the points.  Well done Lads.

Another win for the Demons this weekend with Pembroke OS being the latest scalp. It was a great team effort with 11 goal kickers contributing to a 10 goal win.  The Dees were in front all day and although there was still some inaccuracy in front of goal a 5.1 last quarter was a definite improvement.  Damien Millar kicked four for a total of 33 for the year, with Tom Hamilton and Darnell Chantrelle both with 3 goals each.  For Dusty's comments on the game click here. (available Monday night)
The B grade suffered from an inaccuracy problem as well this week with 16 scoring shots but only one major being posted. It turned to be and embarrassing loss for the boys who only managed 1.15 for the game.
The C grade were handed the points after Pembroke OS could not field a team and forfeited the match.

Congratulations Tom Hossack - 100 Games

Tom Hossack played his 100th game in the Under 11 Red side this weekend. Tom, a fast moving, hard tackling player is having a great season for his side. Although his side haven't won as many games as they would have liked, Tom has been a good, consistent player. Tom has been playing for Eastern Park since our inaugural under 6 side in 2004. He also played in a fair few games for his brother Harley's side a couple of age groups above him. Well Done Tom! 100 junior games down, 100+ more to go.

It was a battle between top of the ladder PHOS Camden and fourth placed Eastern Park. The Demons, still with injury concerns, knew it was going to be a tough game and it turned out to be a close affair with EPFC taking the points. The final margin was four points but it should have been more with inaccuracy in front of goal a concern once more.  We didn't manage to improve our ladder position after the win but we knocked PHOS down to third position.  It is certainly tight at the top of the ladder and we will have to be on our metal to have a crack at the finals this year.
The B grade went down by 82 points to a much stronger PHOS side.  This was probably expected with the drain of players due to injury.  The last few weeks have tested our depth but hopefully with players returning we will soon return to winning form. Not a good result for the Cs either going down by 10 goals. Lets hope for a better result against Pembroke next week.

Football  28-06-09
Down to the Rosella street oval this week to take on PNU and the result was not the best for the Demons. Our kicking certainly cost us the game. In the end the final margin was 12 points. We have been extremely inaccurate in front of goal, two weeks in a row with 18 and 20 behinds kicked.  We have had far more scoring shots than our opposition of late but you can't win if you don't kick majors.  The only saving grace is that we have had plenty of the ball and if we can convert accurately we will be force to be reckoned with.  Click here for Dusty's comments
The Bs didn't fair well either in the away game but the Cs playing at home upheld the Demon spirit taking a 13 goal win.

Football  13-06-09
A home game for the Demons and we took on Adelaide Uni for the second time this season.  However, the result was not as good as the match earlier in the year.  The Dees were certainly in the game and had 32 scoring shots to 22 but inaccuracy in front of goals cost us the points. With a final margin of 5 points we were close but unfortunately not quite good enough. We have a number injuries at the moment which certainly didn't help our cause and with Payneham NU next week we will have a fight on our hands to come away with a win.
A close match for the B grade also this week but again we were not quite good enough to get the points, in the end going down by 15 points. A good win by the C grade though with the Dees running out winners down at park 10 by 4 goals in a relatively low scoring match.

Congratulations to promising young Demon, Kyle Presbury who will be heading off to Maroochydore in July to compete in the National Championships. Kyle, who is a Best and Fairest winner in all junior grades he has played in at Eastern Park was selected to represent South Australia in the state under 12s team. Good luck Kyle and all of us at EPFC wish you well in your football pursuits.

Football  13-06-09
The Demons went down to Broadview oval in what promised to be a good match. The Dees started well and were up by a couple at the first break. The lads were full of run and looked to be in control. Broadview's inaccuracy helped us to maintain the ascendancy.
At the half time break the Dees elected to stay out on the ground and were addressed by injured coach, Dusty. The lads may have gotten a little cool and their football was certainly off the boil in the third term, letting the tigers back into the game.
Early in the last Broadview hit the front through a couple of undisciplined acts which cost the Dees greatly. After a Broadview spear tackle which hospitalised one our young up and coming demons. the boys rallied and clawed a couple back. However it was too little too late with the Tigers running out nine point winners.
The Bs and Cs had good wins though with the Bs doing it easy by 9 goals and the Cs back at Dwight reserve running out winners by 27 points.

Football  24-05-09
Another home game for the Demons this weekend at it was the battle of the Parks, Eastern Park and Flinders Park. A rematch of last year's Grand Final, the Demons had something to prove and certainly did with a convincing win over a lack lustre Reds side who have only chalked up 2 wins for the season.  The win sees EPFC in second spot on the Div 2 ladder with six wins, one draw and one loss for the season.
It was a different story though for our B and C grades who unfortunately went down in both their matches and both by fairly substantial margins.
It was a good win for our under 16s though with a 15 goal victory against Athelstone and a win for the 13s against Walkerville by 10 goals at Dwight Reserve today.

Football  24-05-09
It was a triple header this weekend at Dwight Reserve with the Cs, Bs and As all having wins.  the Cs had a big win in the early game downing the Seaton Ramblers by 84 points with Bradley Banks, Caston and Valente kicking 3 each.  The next game was a closer affair with the Bs holding on against a strong finishing Seaton Ramblers. The Bs were up for most of the game but faltered in the last. Inaccurate kicking by the opposition let the Dees off the hook and the lads managed to hang on for a 1 point victory.
The A grade match promised to be a ripper and for the first half it was with the Ramblers getting away to a great start kicking 3 goals with out reply. The Dees clawed their way back and lead by a goal at quarter time.  The second quarter was also tight with both sides virtually going goal for gaol with the Demons still maintaining the ascendancy at the long break.
The third quarter was one to behold for our boys who dominated, booting 11 goals to 1 in what was to be a matching winning performance. We moved the ball well and simply outclassed a tired looking Seaton Ramblers side. To their credit the opposition pulled a few goals back in the last but the game was over at 3 quarter time. The final score EPFC 22.17:149 to Seaton ramblers 15.13:103.

A big win against Kilburn this weekend sees Eastern Park sitting in third spot on the division two ladder. In what was a somewhat one sided affair our  lads showed they are a force to be reckoned within div 2 and capable of holding their own against all comers. The final score EPFC 28.29:189 to Kilburn 11.4:70.
A big win also for our Bs who hardly raised a sweat in their match.  Our boys kicked an impressive 34 goals with Keegan Jackson kicking 8 and Ben Hancock 6. with Kilburn kicking only 1.3 in was a real percentage booster in the 218 point win.
To cap it off and to give the club 3 out of 3 this round the C grade also had a great 8 goal win, with Chamo and Banksy kicking 4 each.  A great weekend og footy for the Mighty Dees.

Another win this week for our Div 2 side this week against quality opposition in Athelstone.  It was a close game with our boys getting over the line by 9 points. Adrian Wilson, ex Central Districts player, lead the way kicking 4 majors for the Demons.  Our Bs on the other hand were not as fortunate, and were spanked by the "Raggies" by a 12 goal margin.
Our C2 side absolutely annihilated old time northern rivals Salisbury West in the match at Dwight Reserve. They came away with the points and a very impressive 154 point win, with Michael Goris bagging 6 for the day.

A home game for the Demons this weekend and it was a good win for our boys against Pembroke OS.  We beat them in the preseason carnival at Loxton and we smash them by 9 goals this weekend. Dusty will have his match report soon, so go to the Results>Senior Football>A Grade menu to see his Round 4 wrap up or click here to go directly to the page.
Although it was a good day for the As, our other senior teams were soundly beaten.  Some good results in our Junior sides though with the 16s and 13s having great wins. Go Junior Dees!

We made our way down to Camden oval to face the Phantoms on the first wet day of the year.  The B grade had the worst of the conditions and did not have the best result either going down by 8 goals. The weather had improved by the time the As made their way on to the oval which was is pretty good condition considering the amount of rain.  Our A grade were competitive all day and were unlucky to go down by 9 points. It was a good effort and we were in reach all day but it wasn't to be.
The juniors began their season this weekend and we had mixed results.  Our under 16s had a easy win over local rivals Smithfield.  The final margin of around 22 goals was impressive and hopefully a good season lies ahead for our U16 Lads.

Football  20-04-09
It was Eastern Park's first home game for the year and we were up against worthy opponents in Payneham NU. In the first, kicking with the wind, we dominated all over the ground but some poor kicking lets us down. We scored 7.7 which should have been at least 10.4.  PNU took charge in the second and we were 4 goals down at the main break. After some positional changes in the third we were able to stem the tide and work our way back into the game. In the last our onballers once again dominated possession and what seemed like a lost cause suddenly became a reality. We kicked 8 goals in the last stanza and hit the front but after a couple of umpiring decisions went against us, PNU were able to take the lead by a solitary goal. With about 20 seconds to go we had another clearance and Troy Gatto took a good mark at CHF. The siren went with us 1 goal behind, Troy drilled the goal which showed a huge amount of maturity. A drawn result, both sides would have been disappointed, but we had 10 more scoring shots and our poor kicking for goal in first and third quarters cost us the points.

What a great debut.  In their first ever Div 2 game the Demons tasted success.  The Dees ventured down to the historic University Oval for their clash against the more fancied Adelaide University side. It was an even and competitive first quarter with neither side able to gain the ascendancy. In the second, good work by our onball brigade plus some solid finishing by Wilbur and Donners enabled the Dees to go in at half time with a 3 goal lead.
The Blacks came out firing after the break and piled on 7 goals to take the lead by 5 points at three quarter time.  The Demons showed their fighting spirit in the last quarter and through some solid ruck work by Matty Armstrong, our onballers got on top and we kicked away. Our tackling and ferociousness was fantastic.  The final score EPFC 16.13:109 to Adelaide University 12.15:90. Great Win!!
A good win at home by our C2 side who demolished Uni by 81 points. The final score EPFC 18.13: 121 to Uni 5.10:40.  Our D2R side however were not in the race in their game with the Blacks B grade side who were far too strong for our Boys. The final score  EPFC 3.6:24 to Uni 25.14:154.
