A disappointing end to what has been a fantastic season for the Eastern Park Football Club. Smashed all over the ground, coach Carey Payne was left scratching his head in an attempt to find an answer to the rampaging Flinders Park side brimming with confidence and showing plenty of poise. All kudos to Flinders, the much better side in the biggest game of the season. The Demons struggled to unearth a morsel of momentum and/or a match up which could help stem the flow. On a forgettable day it was hard to find an individual winner on the paddock with the notable exception of Michael Ashby who could have vied for BOG status with the Reds Paul Smith. Darren Huitema and Darnell Chantrelle also toiled manfully in defence and across half forward respectively, while the move of Shaun Gatto and Trav McKee into the midfield at the start of the second half had an impact at the centre clearances, though the horse had already well and truly bolted.

Congratulations to Flinders Park with all 3 senior teams in GF's for 2 flags.

The Demons will look forward to a history making season 2009 - it's first in the SAAFL Division 2, and the challenges that ensue. All those who have contributed to the successes of 2008 and in particular the Directors, coaching staff and players - can be exceptionally proud of this momentous achievement.

Success in one grand final and an appearance in another for two of our sides on the weekend.  Congratulations to our young Demons who took out the premiership at Daly oval in the NEMJFA under 13 white on Sunday.  It was a great game between two evenly matched sides with Eastern Park gaining the ascendancy in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to hold out against a strong finishing Broadview.  Well done to coach Craig Cotton and all the boys who really played some great link up footy to make them and the club proud.
The A grade booked their spot in the Div 3 grand final next week after a great win against Kilburn.  The Lads were down at half time due in part to some woeful kicking in front of goal.  The boys fought back in the third quarter but were still plagued by some errant kicking in front of the sticks scoring 3 goals and 6 points.  It was a hard fought affair and it was a tight last quarter with Easter Park finally getting over the line.  The final score 13:17 95 to  Kilburn 13:6 84.  We will need to kick more accurately in next week's grand final.
It was a gallant effort by our B grade side who stuck with Walkerville up till half time.  The lads tried hard all day but Walkerville managed to kick away in the second half to win by 5 goals.  It was a great effort by the Lads to make it this far and they should be congratulated for a great season.

Football 31-08-08
A somewhat disappointing weekend of football for our two senior sides with both going down to Flinders Park at Salisbury oval on Saturday afternoon. The Bs started the rot in the early game with a 15 point loss.  The game was a torrid affair with scrappy performances from our boys.  They were never really in front all day and will need to lift for next weeks elimination match against Walkerville.
The A grade. Well what can you say.  Not good enough.  The Dees were in the hunt up until the third quarter when it was clear that the opposition wanted it more.  If this is going to be our year will will need to improve and play four quarters of hard relentless footy.  Kilburn this week and lets hope we can get it together to have a win and book that grand final birth.
A good win for our only junior side still in the finals, the under 13s.  They have really blossomed and are playing some really good hard footy. They have downed Modbury and Golden Grove to book a place in the Grand Final  this Sunday against Broadview.  Get along to Hectorville at support our juniors.

Football 24-08-08
It's finals time and what a good start it was for Eastern Park's D3R side this weekend.  With the A grade earning the week off for the minor premiership it was up to our B grade to fly the flag for the mighty Demons.  The lads did it in style with a five goal victory over Walkerville at Salisbury Oval. Carey Payne with 5, Ben Williamson 4 and Danny Walton with 2 to seal a great win.  Next weekend we will face off against Flinders Park in both our D3 and D3R, so get out there and support our finals campaign.
Our 13s, 15s and 16s played in finals today and there were some mixed results.  The under 13s were simply too strong for Modbury and the boys ran away with a easy seven goal win.  It was a different story for both the 15s and 16s who were unable to get over the line in what were well fought out games.  The under 13s are now our only finals hope so get out there next Sunday and support the future of our club.

Football 17-08-08
Minor round premiers in Div 3.  Has a nice ring to it but the challenge lies ahead in the finals for Eastern Park.  Our div 3 boys had an easy victory over Salisbury West who up until recent times, were a side to be reckoned with. Their lost will see them relegated to div 4. Take nothing away from our boys though who showed with their 125 point win that they will be a force in the finals.  Our B grade also gave the local rivals a football lesson in the earlier game with the demolition of Salisbury West by 162 points.  The big win secures the double chance for the Bs.
Its great to see both our D3 and D3R sides will be fighting it out in the finals.  So come on all you parkers get behind our boys and show your support by cheering our lads home in the finals.

Football 10-08-08
Not quite the result the Demons were looking for this week in the Div 3 clash with Kilburn. The Dees were after some revenge following their last encounter at Dwight Reserve where the Knights were easy winners but it wasn't to be with boys going down by eight points.  It what were far from ideal conditions we once again started slowly but were only 2 points down at the main break. Kilburn came out a little hungrier after half time and kick five goals to the Demons one.  The Dees fought back in the last but ran out of time to go down by 8 points. Although this was only their third lost of the season thus far the boys will certainly need to get their act together with finals fast approaching.
The Bs had an emphatic win in the earlier game with Payney kicking 6 and young players Chris Lewis and Corey Clarke really turning it on.  The Boys have an opportunity, with one game to go, to grab that double chance which would be a great reward for their hard work in recent times.

Football 03-08-08
A walk in the park or should I say and easy win at the park for our Div 3 and D3R sides this week against Woodville South.  The A grade Dees thumped the Cats by 10 goals to go two games clear at the top of the ladder and once again showed that they are a force to be reckoned with this year.  Not to be out done the B grade showed they are ready for the finals with a 15 goal win over the hapless Woodville South side. Our Bs really starting to gel and the business end of the season.
The Cs were also victorious in their game getting home by 22 points to complete the hat-trick of wins for our senior sides this weekend.  Go the Dees!!

Football 27-07-08
Top spot on the ladder was up for grabs this week when the Demons took on the Reds in this much awaited Div 3 clash at Flinders Park Oval. This game was a cracker with no more than a goal or two separating the combatants all day. The lead changed on numerous occasions with neither side able to gain the ascendancy but finally it was the Dees who came through to take top spot downing Flinders Park by 3 points. This win showed that we are more that able to go all the way this year.  Great win!
In the earlier game the Bs had a very good first half but then fell away to go down by around 5 goals. A grade coach, Carey Payne kicking 3 for the Bs but it was not a result the boys were after with finals just around the corner.

Football 20-07-08
It was a triple header at home for the Demons this week against opponents  Para Hills. The A grade ended up with another win but it was only due to playing one good quarter for the day.  The Dees were behind almost all day and were down by a goal at the last break.  An unanswered seven goal last quarter was enough to get the Demons comfortably home.  This brand of footy would not cut the mustard against sides like Flinders Park or Walkerville and is something Payney and the boys will have to work on if they are to be premiership contenders.
The Bs did it comfortably in the earlier game, running out winners by ten goals.  The Lads seemed to be cruising at half capacity for most of the game and will need to take it up a notch if they are to be serious contenders for the flag.  The C grade's early start didn't have the desired effect with the lads going down by around 8 goals.  They were always going to be up against it with Para Hills' C3 side only losing 2 games to date in season 08.  There's always next week boys.

Football 13-07-08
Wins for all the senior sides this week against local rivals Salisbury who's A grade side seems to be struggling a a bit since their promotion to Div 3.  The A grade was too strong for the black and white side easily accounting for them by a margin of nine goals.  Two players in Ben Williamson and Scott Prime making their debuts in the A Grade side and certainly held their own. The wins sees Eastern Park back on top of the ladder.
The B Grade had a tight struggle on their hands and were down by 3 points at the main break.  A strong third quarter by the Lads, keeping Salisbury scoreless in the third, setup the win. The opposition showed some resistance in the last but the Demons held on to win by a 2 goal margin.  The Cs were also good in their match and were too strong for Maggies running out comfortable 5 goal winners.
The under 18s took on Modbury who last time we played, thumped us by plenty.  In what was a 20 goal turnaround, the Boys were great and although they didn't get the win they certainly showed some heart.  To only go down by 4 points after the result in their last encounter was fantastic.
Congratulations to Andy Goodchild who reached his 150th game milestone in today's under 18 game.  Andy is seen below with coach Lance Ramsell after being presented with his 150 game medallion.

Football 06-07-08
Good wins by the As and Bs over SPOC this week after losses last week. The 85 point win by the A grade was not enough to regain top spot on the ladder with Flinders Park still slightly ahead on percentage even after their less than impressive 3 point win over Woodville South. Lets hope the Dees can thump Salisbury next week at get the top spot back. The Bs were impressive in their 81 point drubbing of the St Peters Old Collegians' second side. It was a great four quarter performance by the Dees and it was an notable debut by Under 15s player, Corey Coad who kicked 3 goals for the game.
Finally, a win by our under 18s side who today ventured down to Greenacres and came back with the points. The lads were down for most of the day but stormed home with a 6 goal to zip last quarter to give them the win.  It gave the lads the opportunity to finally sing the club song which I can report they did with great gusto.  The win sees the U18s off the bottom of the ladder and it is no doubt a great reward for all their efforts.

Football 29-06-08
What a turnaround from last week and it was one the Eastern Park Football Club would not be happy about.  The A grade had the trip down to Walkerville and no doubt were expecting a hard clash but one they thought would be winnable.  Unfortunately it didn't turn out to be with Walkerville running over the top in the last quarter with a six goal to one burst.  Things were pretty even for most of the game but the home side simply wanted it more and took the points by a margin of six goals.  This sees EPFC drop to second spot on the ladder by percentage with Flinders Park now taking top position.
It was a similar story for the B Grade.  The game was a close one for the first three quarters with the Demons having their nose in front. But in what was a mirror of the A Grade result, Walkerville kicked 6 to 1 in the last to win by 19 points.
A result this weekend that the Demons will need to learn from if they want to be a serious contender for the Div 3 flag.

Football
22-06-08
All of our senior grades were in the winner's circle this weekend after taking on Old Iggies.  The A grade had a slow start and were down by six goals at half time. Robo was probably rubbing his hands with glee but the demon spirit came to the fore and after a nine goal to one third quarter the Dees had the lead.  They continued this in the last quarter outscoring the opposition seven goals to four to come away with a 40 point win.
By contrast the Bs started superbly and kicked 7 goals to 1 in the first quarter only to have Old Ignations rally to come back in the second.  The Dees however were able to maintain a comfortable buffer throughout the match to eventually win by 37 points.
The C grade were involved in a tight struggle and it was great to see the boys getting over the line by a mere 2 points to make it a great weekend for the club.

Football 15-06-08
A demolition! The first word that comes to mind when describing the Demons annihilation of Salisbury West on the weekend.  In a percentage building 20 goal plus victory the Dees were just too good for the hapless local rivals. It was a cakewalk and with all but four players not scoring for the parkers it showed that it was a great team effort.  The Bs too showed their superiority with an 80 point win over the Salisbury West side. Ben McGreen outstanding in that game with 4 last quarter goals.
If you think the As and Bs had it easy, well spare a thought for the C grade who had the afternoon off when Salisbury West could not field a team.

Football 01-06-08
Back down to earth with a thud would be a good way to describe Eastern Park's loss to Kilburn on the weekend.  In a lack lustre performance with few highlights the Demons suffered their first loss of the season.  The Knights simple outclassed the Dees and with recruits like ex Central Districts' players Wilson and Stengle they showed that they could be a real contender for the Div 3 Flag. The B and C grade sides on the other hand were sensational in their wins, with the Bs have an excellent four quarter effort to account for Kilburn by over 100 points. Great win!  The C grade too were impressive and had an easy 10 goal win over Kilburn.
With the next week off, it may be a good opportunity for our senior side to regroup and get back their winning footy attitude.  C'mon Parkers!

Football 25-05-08
Last week it was the top of the table clash, this week it was top verses bottom and Eastern Park's Div 3 side maintained its unbeaten top of the ladder position against cellar dwellers Woodville South. The game was hardly one of quality with plenty of mistakes from both sides.  The Dees may have gone into this game with a less than diligent attitude but were able to account for Woodville South who last year were in Div 2 but seem to be on the downward slide.  It was a different kettle of fish for our Bs who were trounced by the "Cats" in a fairly one sided affair. A bit of work required for our boys who went down by close to 13 goals and have only won 3 out of  7 this season so far.
Our C3 side had a great win, in fact it was their only win so far in season 2008, so the lads must be congratulated.  The win projects the Dees to 8 place on the ladder with massive 28.5%. A bit of tongue in cheek there but it was a great win by our very own weekend warriors.

Football 18-05-08
It was the top of the table clash this week at Dwight reserve when Eastern Park took on Flinders Park. The opposition had first use of the wind and certainly made the most of it.  The Demons fought back in the second only to fall behind in the third. The Lads showed great discipline even when Troy Gatto was stretchered off after dubious incident, and rallied in the last to get over the line by 10 points.  The support from the hill by the EPF (the Eastern Park Firm) was tremendous and no doubt buoyed the Demons to help them take out the win.  In the earlier game the Bs got off to a slow start but to the boys credit they fought back well only to go down by 4 ponts.  The backline held the team together all day with Ben Hancock starring for the Dees.

Football 11-05-08
A triple header at The Paddocks this weekend with all senior Easter Park sides heading down the road to confront Para Hills. We had wins in the As and Bs but the Cs were not that lucky.  The A grade had a hard fought clash with Para Hills piling on the pressure which stifled the Demons free flowing game. The Dees down by a couple of points ant three quarter time but rallied to get over the line by a margin of 11 points.  The Bs had a slow start but after quarter time the boys turned it around and had an exceptional game. A grade coach, Carey Payne, was back on song kicking 3 goals for the Dees' second side.  The final score 15.15:105 to Para Hills 6.6:42.  Perhaps the early start did not agree with the C3 side as they only managed 1.4 in their game and were literally thumped by Para Hills who kicked 18.19:127

Football

A clash between local rivals this week when Eastern Park took on Salisbury.  They Salisbury football club may have played a starring role in this week's edition of Grass Roots on C31 but it was certainly not a glamorous performance by them in their match against the mighty Demons.  The Dees who now sit atop the Div 3 premiership table simply outclassed their black and white clad opposition thrashing them by close to 15 goals.  A great win.  The B grade had most of the play all day but a 2 goal 7 last quarter cost the lads it what was a disappointing finish to the game.
Our under 15s also had the wood on Salisbury with a great team effort. The boys started well and were never headed.  The 56 point win to the junior Dees was one to savour for the boys

Football 27-04-08
It was another good win for the Demons A grade this weekend in what were ordinary conditions.  The match against SPOC played at Caterer Oval was a fairly one side affair with Eastern Park leading at every break. They were simply to strong for their opposition but there is still plenty of room for improvement. The final score EPFC 17.16: 118 to SPOC 7. 9: 51.  The Bs too had a good win and were definitely switched on, playing some great footy.  All the young Lads stepped up and contributed to the 40 point win.  The final score EPFC 14.16:100 to SPOC 9.6:60.
The 18s were unlucky not to chalk up their first win for the season with a narrow loss to Greenacres by a margin of only 3 points.  They are a new side just starting to come together and perform as a team.  There were some encouraging signs and hopefully things will continue to improve.

Football 20-04-08
What a win! The EPFC A grade showed what they were capable of in a great performance on the weekend.  The score line looked absolutely dismal at quarter time with Walkerville aided by a breeze, kicking ten goals to our one but in an inspiring come back, the Demons pushed hard and put some physical pressure on the opposition to bring themselves back into the game. By half time the Demons had clawed their way back to be only nine points down, which was due in part to their movement out of the middle and some excellent defence. The Dees continued in the second half maintaining the physical pressure to level at three quarter time and kept Walkerville scoreless in the last to run out gutsy winners 16-16:112 to 14-3:87. A great win for the club.  Congratulations to Matty Paul who not only was one of the better players on the day but also reached his 150 game milestone, Well done!
The story was a little different for the Bs however who were not able to get up over a well drilled Walkerville. It was fairly close up until half time but the opposition kicked away in the third to set up a match winning lead. The boys, to there credit matched Walkerville in the last but the damage had already been done.  The final score Walkerville 18-16 : 124 to EPFC 6-11: 47.

Football 13-04-08
The season kicked off this weekend for clubs in the Amateur League and it started well for Eastern Park who registered wins in their D3 and D3R matches.  The Demons came up against Old Iggies who have been a thorn in our side in the past few seasons. The As were in front all day and never looked like being headed.  More accurate kicking for goal would have resulted in a demolishing but it wasn't to be with the final score EPFC 17:20 122 to Old Iggies 15:4 94.  The Bs got off to a slow start but kept at it all day to hit the front at the end of the third quarter and continued on to run out winners by a two goal margin.  The final score was EPFC 13:14 92 to ld Iggies 12:8 80.

Junior Football 06-04-08
Its back!  Believe it or not footy has started for the juniors from under 11 up.  In the first matches of the season, EPFC were able to come away with 3 wins out of the six matches played with the under 12s just missing out in the last minutes of the game. Well done you junior Dees.

On Saturday the 8th of March, two army reserves, one security guard, coaches and helpers took 34 under 10 players on a physical and team building boot camp held at the club. Players were given army shirts, dog tags, code names and separated into 6 teams. They then competed in many physical challenges and fun games. Physical challenges such as a gruelling obstacle course which included brick carrying up a hill, running, climbing and crawling through a mud pit; wrestling, orienteering and a football game under lights. Fun games included water balloon throwing and fights, night glow stick hunt, blind fold guiding through a maze and a heap more. All games and physical challenges collecting points for their team. The boys enjoyed setting up their sleeping bag on the club floor, watching movies, eating pizza and junk food. Even though lights were out at about 11 pm and they had a 7am start a few of the lads didn't settle til after 3am. Although temps were very high, being yelled at, made to run and do push ups they all enjoyed the weekend. Some away from their families for the first time were not even fazed. The yellow team taking honours for the weekend just 2 points ahead of the black team. New player to the club, Brandon Dermody, awarded the best and fairest for the weekend. Winners trophies kindly donated by sponsor K-Biz. Well done boys!!
We'll do it again next year. Good luck for the footy season.

Club News 15-01-08
A New Year's welcome to you Eastern Parkers and apologies from your webmaster for the lack of updates in recent times.  Some cricket scores have now been updated thanks to the result gathering prowess of our cricket delegate Michael Bray.  Some A grade match synopses are in the pipeline so keep your eyes peeled in the weeks to come.  Cheers for now.
